DEPRESSION AMONG PRISONERS

The trauma faced by prisoners are immensely damaging their mental health, as they are being tortured and brutalized mentally, research has shown that more than 50% of prisoners suffer from depression a mental health issue, and because of this I took my time to research about this topic.
Depression is a common mental health problem that causes people to experience low mood, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, low energy, and poor concentration. A mental illness is a disease that causes mild to severe disturbance in thought and/or behaviour, resulting in an inability to cope with life's ordinary demands and routines. With the torture faced by prisoners there is a high probability that they may face mental illness it may not be obvious but something will definitely trigger it later, and this can lead to suicide by hanging, wrist slitting, poisoning and so on.
One crime or the other would definitely make someone a prisoner but with torture and strict treatments of inmates would even result in more loss of lives as they tend to commit suicide which is also a crime on its own. Am not trying to defend prisoners but just trying to say that the different prosecutions given to prisoners should not be taken to the extreme.
As there are punishments in prisons, there should also be therapy for prisoners in other to reduce the rate of depression in prisons and any other mental health. Let make this interactive as you leave a comment in the comment sections below.
